I am resigning as of December 31st.

It has been a grateful 6 months meeting good people at my first job as a junior developer. Being in a specialized market domain, there was much to learn and many technical contributions I made. More important than the technology, I learned the value of ‘customer.’

Over the past month, I have successfully handed over my duties and wrapped up my final tasks. I also carried out a major app update in the meantime. A new frontend developer has been hired to replace me. In fact, there was no system in the company that I didn’t handle, so I documented everything from frontend to backend and DevOps. Meeting a decent company and an admirable CEO at my first company allowed me to have a valuable experience where effort directly translated into results.

The decisive reason for my resignation was realizing that seeing me perform all tasks through AI, a frontend engineer could be replaced within five years. The business itself didn’t require such complex functions, so AI could handle most of the features. I wanted to implement more complex technologies. It was not feasible to do side projects while working at the company due to time constraints, and the company didn’t allow side projects either, so I chose to resign.

I am now starting to stand on my own. I want to experiment with creating a community and sustaining capital without an organization like a company. I believe this is possible with open source startups and blockchain technology. It is something I truly want to do and can fully immerse myself in, and I am confident that if I create an open source startup, I can continue it for more than 10 years.

2024 has been a year of significant personal growth. High school graduation, first college admission, a leave of absence, my first hackathon, first time living alone, first job, and first resignation. I also met numerous people along the way. I think I met over 200 people, considering I received around 80 business cards. What I felt from meeting people was “I am still lacking.” Seeing people from completely different fields or those who delve deeper made me realize the areas I am unfamiliar with. I only knew how to handle software, but I had no idea how to sell it.

I realized that in software, the customer is ultimately important. No matter how good the technology is, it has no economic value if no one uses it. Moving forward, I want to create products that have customers. After much consideration, I have chosen entrepreneurship again, and I believe that if I don’t challenge myself with an open source startup now, I won’t have the chance. It’s something I really wanted to do, and immersing myself in it as much as possible is my goal for 2025.
